Counting My Blessings

I have come back to the conclusion that I have so very much to be thankful for... I love this time of year because it reminds me to remember the multitude of blessings in my life that beacon to be accounted for... Here are a few that I have been thinking of today... Simple, wonderful, graciousness...

My children
My freedom
My health
My parents
My ability to create and express myself through a variety of medias
My husband
My friends, both new and old, whom make me a better person day in and day out...
My imagination
My sister
My home
My memory
My senses

What or who are  you grateful for?
Have you shared your gratitude lately?

Note To Self

This Christmas when Santa is shopping for Sebastian's shiny new bike, maybe he will be generous enough to throw in one of these amazingly stylish and down right adorable bike helmets... Who knew safety could be so much fun? Oh, and maybe he would consider a helmet for a Momma who has tried hard to be good all year long... Just maybe...

Brooklyn's 1st Birthday Party...The Pumpkin Patch

Yesterday we had a wonderful time celebrating Brooklyn's first birthday with our family at the pumpkin patch... The weather was just perfect, the company was great.. One hay ride, one birthday cake, one kitten, one bee-sting (luckily mine), one pumpkin and one adorable one year old boy!

Indian Summer

Weather in Southern California has been beautiful all week...

Temperatures reaching into the mid nineties...

Yesterday we retreated to the back yard to fill Tupperware bowls with cool hose water...

Endless amounts of fun...

Old Year Old

My Wish For Baby...

Last October I was given a beautiful baby shower in preparation for Brooklyn's arrival... Amongst my family and friends I spent the evening laughing and thinking a lot about the child that would be with us soon... I had spent much of the week prior to that day constructing these handmade envelopes for each of my guests.  Inside each envelope I placed a small card asked each guest the following... Throughout the evening, would they think of a wish that that had for our baby.  Something that they might wish him immediately, or a wish for his future.  The envelopes were collected at the end of the night, and I tucked them safely away, to be opened and read upon Brooklyn's first birthday.  The anticipation to open these little envelopes has been high...  I have often wondered what the cards might read, who wished what and which wishes have already come true throughout this first year of his life?  My questions are now answered... Today, with my husband by my side, I opened and read aloud each and every one of these heartfelt wishes... Here are a few of my most favorite...

"Your Nana wishes you a life full of love, security, happiness, prosperity and health!  I can't wait to get my hands on you for a big, big hug! xoxo"

"My wish for baby Brooklyn is to always find humor in every situation. Laughter is the cure to all things!  Always remember to smile and be open to many kisses, as you are already very loved!"

"...That no matter when, young or old, should Brooklyn know that the people closest to him love him dearly and that he will never be alone."

Happy 1st Birthday Brooklyn Michael

Happy birthday to the sweetest little man in my life!  I am shocked at how quickly this year has passed by...
Although your party is not until this next weekend, we will a have a little party of our own tonight! Momma will cook you a special birthday dinner... all of your favorites!  Then you will get  to eat your first piece of birthday cake, and open your very first present...
I hope that you have a wonderful day!  I love you endlessly... Momma

One Kid. One Vote.

"What's a vote Momma"... This question from Sebastian generated questions of my own... How do you explain to a four year old the meaning; much less the importance of a vote?  I began by explaining that a vote is someones opinion, the way that one feels about a topic or issue... It's someones say; what they believe  in...  I begin explaining the power that voting gives an individual... then it came to me... There are topics in Sebastian's four year old life that he feels passionately about as well... I  would make him a ballot and allow him to vote... to have his voice heard and his opinion stated.... officially .

Here are some of the questions that I included on the ballot...
Should we go camping next year?
How many times a week should he be able to play video games?
Which should we serve more of... broccoli or carrots?
What should Brooklyn be for Halloween... A pumpkin or a baby Hulk?

This exercise ended up being a lot of fun and now when posed with a question... Sebastian is quick to suggest a vote... More than anything I want my boys to fully understand the importance of voting and  having their voice be heard;whether its in a public forum, or in the comfort of our home... important none the less...

Reflection

Sebastian's first birthday party was such a wonderful celebration. I remember planning it with such excitement and fever, and watching proudly as it went off without a hitch... I feel like the first birthday party for your child is just as much, if not more so, a celebration for the childs parents and entire family as well.   A year has passed sense this beautiful being was given to you by the grace of God... Celebrate the time, the effort, the love and the commitment it requires to raise a child... It is so hard for me to digest the fact that these pictures were taken almost four years ago... My sweet little boys are unstoppable... their growth and their sweetness is uncontainable...
